Do I need planning permission?

Some changes to your home might not need planning permission and could be carried out as 'permitted development' if they satisfy certain limits and conditions.

These include:

  • Extensions

  • Dormers

  • Outbuildings

  • Hard surfaces/decking

  • Boundary treatment

  • Other specific works

Rules and regulations change regularly, so for more information on what you can and can't do please take at look at these recommended links and speak to your local council or architect:

Building Control?

Building regulations approval is different from planning permission - and you might need both!  Within England and Wales most construction work is covered by Building Regulations.  These are the minimum technical standards which have been set by the government.  They ensure that building work is properly designed and constructed to ensure the minimum acceptable standards for:

  • Public safety and health

  • The welfare and convenience of people using building

  • Protecting the environment

  • Reduce climate change.

For more information, please speak to your local council or refer to our recommended site

Sourced an architect?

For any extension or conversion, you will require an architect to produce your technical drawings.  These plans and details will be issued to building control for checking and approval.  Whilst we are happy to work with a variety of different architects, we recommend Scott Ellisdon at Ellisdon Architectural Associates

We have worked with Scott on numerous projects covering:

  • Small and Large Home Extensions

  • Alterations

  • Conversions

Please feel free to contact Scott on 01293 400310 or Scott@EllisdonArchitecturalAssociates.co.uk
